How To Configure Cdr King Router Settings

Yesterday, I accompanied my cousin at the mall to buy a wireless router for their two-storey house of 90 – 150 square meter area. I was the one she quickly asked for some suggestions, knowing that I know quite a few about networking.

I quickly recommended a D-Link router because of its user-friendly set up wizard and a built-to-last hardware. And I’ve seen a not-so-expensive one lately online and at the mall. She asked how much a Linksys Router is since I’m most familiar with it. I told her the price range (Php 3,000 – Php 7,000). Yes, that’s how costly a Linksys router could be. Upon hearing that, she just gave me a smile and told me that her budget is only Php 1,000.

How To Configure Cdr King Router

So where would you go to find a wireless router when you’re on a tight budget? Of course, there’s no better place to look for something affordable (but hopefully not cheap) gadgets— only at CD-R King. There, we came across their newest wireless N router, the IP04167 Wireless N Router for only Php 990. Wonderful!

We quickly asked the saleslady (who obviously doesn’t know much about routers) if it could cover the whole area of the house. She gave us a reluctant yes. Seeing that kind of reluctance in her eyes, I asked if they have an access point available because if the the router could not cover the whole house, then we would have to get an access point as well (which I remembered later that we could just get another router and use it as an access point, gosh!)

So this is the router itself. Of course, it comes with its own power adapter, its (very short) ethernet cable, a manual, and a setup cd (that we have not used).

The default IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1 (very familiar). If you are familiar in setting up routers then you will easily understand its web ui. It’s it’s not the friendliest web ui if you’re a beginner, especially if you don’t have any idea on how to set up a router.

But if you do know, then you just have to follow all the logical steps and you’re good to go. Just click on the Setup Wizard and then it will walk you through the set up. However, when it’s done, you could not easily see a WAN IP. So, I checked again if I have a good internet connection straight from the modem. I do. So I connected the mode and the router and the laptop, opened the web ui, and there is still no WAN IP address. But! to my surprise, when I opened another browser, I’m able to go to Google. I was even able to go into my Facebook account. I went back to the web ui and still no WAN IP. Amazing. Perhaps the firmware was corrupted. I don’t know. And I don’t want to update/fix the firmware because it’s from CD-R King— if you know what I mean. Justin timberlake 20 20 tour.

Lastly, I connected the laptop wirelessly, then removed the ethernet cord. Good. All the other wireless devices (netbooks and wireless capable phones) can connect seamlessly. I could even connect to the wireless network from our house. So there’s only one laptop (Compaq Presario) cannot connect to the wireless network but it’s the laptop’s problem, not the router’s. Its owner would have to deal with that problem. Not me.

So far, everything’s working just fine. Not bad for a router for less than a thousand bucks.
